Taking a measurement

HoriSol walks you through the complete yield calculation in six steps:

  1. Location — via GPS or address search. Your location determines which solar data source HoriSol queries for you.
  2. Panel — power, orientation, and tilt of your modules. You set the orientation directly on a rotary ring or capture it with the device compass. Multiple module groups (e.g. east/west) are supported.
  3. Shading — stand exactly where the panel will be installed and take three photos per orientation. An aim marker in the camera shows you where to point. Then drag the horizon line across the skyline with your finger — everything below it counts as shaded. HoriSol suggests the line automatically; you confirm or correct it.
  4. Consumption — your household profile, optionally with heat pump, EV, or water heater.
  5. Economics — investment cost, electricity price, feed-in tariff if applicable.
  6. Result — annual yield (kWh), payback time, self-consumption share, and CO₂ savings, with a ±10% confidence band.

HoriSol only requests permissions (camera, compass, location) when the respective step needs them.

How do I get accurate measurement results?

  • Hold the phone as precisely as possible in the indicated direction and at the indicated angle — the aim marker helps you with this.

  • Take the photos at the height where the panel will later hang — when in doubt, at the lowest point where a panel could be installed.
